Prime Minister Yatsenyuk, speaking in Parliament, announced his resignation
Ukraine
  • Fractions “Svoboda”, “Udar” as well as 19 individual deputies, left the ruling coalition in Verkhovna Rada and therefore, the coalition has ceased to exist – this was announced in the Parliament by its speaker Turchynov. If new coalition will not be formed within 30 days, president has the right to dissolve parliament and appoint parliamentary elections in three months, on October 26.
  • Parliament Speaker Turchynov announced the dissolution of the Communist Party fraction, based on Verkhovna Rada regulation amendments, recently signed by the President Poroshenko. 
  • Prime Minister Yatsenyuk, speaking in Parliament, announced his resignation in response to the collapse of the ruling coalition and blocking of government decisions be the parliament, in particular, reforms of gas transportation system and the allocation of additional funds for the army. Deputies speculate that Prime Minister resignation should be approved by Verkhovna Rada. Mr. Groisman could be appointed as an Acting Prime Minister, as leaked on Facebook by Interior Minister Avakov. President Poroshenko requested Speaker to arrange the confidence vote for the government on July 25 and offered Yatsenyuk to continue to work until the election of the new parliament.
  • Recently opened court hearings on ban of the Communist Party postponed the trial on August 14. Lawsuit against KPU have been filed by the Minister of Justice, based on evidence of party members support to separatists,financing of terrorism,support for Russia's military aggression. More than 300 criminal cases have been opened against members of the Communist Party so far.
  • Head of investigation commission of the Malaysian Airlines aircraft catastrophe, Mr. Groisman, said at the briefing , that international experts have no complains to the Ukrainian dispatchers, that managed the flight in Ukrainian airspace.
  • Foreign exchange market didn’t react to the resignation of the government and the collapse of the parliament coalition. - NBU only slightly lowered the official exchange rate of Hryvnya: 11.68 UAH / 1$ (-4 cop), 15.73 UAH / 1€ (-4 cop), 3.35 UAH / 10 RUR ( -3 cop).
Kyiv
  • In honor of the Ukrainian National Flag all main bridges of Ukrainian capital were decorated with flags of Ukraine. As decided by the city mayor Klitschko, all the bridges in Kiev will be painted in colors of the national flag until the Independence Day.
War in Ukraine
  • Antiterrorist coalition forces liberated Lysychansk from Russian "Cossacks". Ukrainian flag raised on the city hall, Ukrainian troops continue to advance into the south of Luhansk region.
  • Terrorists shelled Lugansk and Donetsk airports and Donetsk suburbs with multiple rocket launch systems "Grad" during the day. Pesky village have been practically destroyed. A day earlier, the terrorists looted the largest shopping center "Donetsk City."
  • Russia continued to shell Ukrainian troops from its territory, covering the border to ensure supply of heavy armored technique to terrorists. Ukrainian troops have been instructed to not respond to the fire, to prevent a full-scale war, as said by President Poroshenko during the meeting with European deputies.
  • According to local residents, Russia has delivered to Ukraine and transferred to terrorists through an unsealed section of the border in the Luhansk region, multiple rocket launch systems "Tornado", exceeding the pfire power of the "Grad" system four times.
  • The "East" battalion commander of self-proclaimed "Donetsk People's Republic" admitted that the terrorists had anti-aircraft system "Buk" in an interview to Reuters. Malaysian Airlines plane was shot down by a missile fired from such a complex.
International
  • U.S. Ambassador to the WTO Punk, in response to accusations of Russia, said that the measures that the United States used to Russian Federation, do not violate the rules and regulations of the association. Washington has carefully studied the question of sanctions in the WTO before their announcement.
  • Press office of the U.S. Department of State said that it had clear evidence of Russian attacks of Ukraine from its territory, as well as the readiness of Russia to supply terrorists of Donbass with more powerful weapons systems.
  • President Poroshenko, at the meeting with MEPs from the European People's Party, said that Ukraine is disappointed by the continuation of  supply of the helicopter carriers "Mistral" by France to Russia. The first ship will be delivered to the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation and will be sent to the Crimea. US, UK, Sweden and Lithuania this week also heavily criticized the deal.
  • The representative of the European Commission, Vice-President Berger reported that nothing impedes European companies to use gas from "Gazprom" for the re-export of to Ukraine.
  • The IMF has significantly lowered the GDP growth forecast for Russia in 2014 to 0.2% due to geopolitical tensions around Ukraine.
