Key Events in Ukraine

  • The General Prosecutor's Office continues to report on the results of the investigation of the crimes against the Maidan activists . Lawyers of the "Heavenly hundred" demand to re-characterize the case from the "mass murder" article  to "terrorism", which will allow to recognize the participation of law enforcement authorities in committing of a common crime. According to lawyers, law enforcement agencies and courts are intentionally delaying and ramshackling the cases, since the majority of murderers and offenders received from the current government guarantees of non-prosecution.

  • The National Bank sold more than $ 15 million at the currency auction , which allowed to slightly reduce the boom on the interbank market: 23,84 ₴ / $ (-0,07 UAH), 25,47 ₴ / € (-0,03 UAH), 3,67 ₴/10 ₽ (-0,02 UAH).

Ukraine at War

  • Militants are constantly shelling the  positions of the Ukrainian army using small arms and mortars, and at night - single MLRS "Grad-P" rockets . According to official reports, over the past day  one soldier was wounded. The most intense fighting is observed in the surroundings of Donetsk and in Artemovsk direction. Head of the Donetsk regional military-civilian administration Zhebrivskyi threatened to close the all transport corridors into the occupied territory in the event of further attacks on checkpoints. Intelligence reports on preparation of  offensive by the militants of the unrecognized republics and on arrival of the delegation of the Russian military to the occupied territory  to inspect the military units. According to the observers, the command staff and technical personnel of the "republics" military units consist of Russian carrer military.

  • The Washington Post considers that the budget of the terrorist Islamic state is comparable to the defense budgets of the European countries. It is formed from the sale of oil, natural resources, agricultural production, historical values, from trade, collection of "taxes" on the occupied territories, bank robberies, ransom for hostages and human trafficking, from funding of sympathizers of the Islamic state. The inability to track the financial flows makes it difficult to fight against the IG and transfers it out of the category of anti-terrorist operation into the category of global war as supporters of terrorists are the citizens of different countries.
  • After the terrorist attack in Paris, the Pentagon decided to change the tactics of struggle with the Islamic state and plans to carry out the air strikes on oil infrastructure in the territory, controlled by terrorists.

The Trends

  • Daily beatings of officials, law enforcement officers and supporters of Yanukovych regime indicate disbelief of the society in the ability of the law enforcement officers and judiciary, led by the current authorities, to administer justice. Opinion polls confirm the willingness of people for use of non-judicial proceedings and the Lynch Law, if the government does not take srong actions for radical reorganization of the law enforcement system. The majority of local experts and Western politicians believe that the failure to solve the problem would result in the political instability that threatens the existence of the Ukrainian state.
