War in Ukraine
  • Cities of Donbass slide into chaos due to continuous terrorists shelling - water and electricity supply have been cut of in Luhansk since two weeks, water supply have been as well cut in Donetsk. Residential areas being chaotically shelled, civilians being killed. Terrorists blast bridges and railroads, systematically destroying the region infrastructure. Antiterrorist Operation Forces opened humanitarian corridors to let civilians leave the battlegrounds, but militants bar the evacuation, considering to use civilians as a live shield.
  • Fights are ongoing in regional centers of Donbass - Donetsk and Luhansk. Ukrainian army took over the control of Maryinka, Yuasinuvata, Panteleymonovka, Zhdanovka and Uglegorsk.
    Antiterrorist Operation Forces encircle terrorists strongholds in big cities, cutting the supply lines through key highways. Heavy fights are ongoing in east and south areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions in proximity to the border, where terrorists are being supported by artillery from Russian territory. Ukrainian Armed Forces don’t respond to the shelling. Russian military planes, helicopters and surveillance drones, continuously brake into the Ukrainian air space along with land and water borderline. International journalists evidenced numerous facts of Russian APCs and mercenaries crossing Ukrainian border, that made strong international resonance. SSU provided strong evidence of Russian troops participation to the conflict on Ukrainian territory.
  • International experts consider high risk of direct Russian invasion to Ukraine, as big military units have been focused along the Ukrainian border, as well as exercises being conducted in war-like conditions.

Economy
  • NBU devaluated Ukrainian Hryvnya to historical minimum of 13.14 UAH / 1$ and is trying to stabilize the exchange rate through market interventions. Experts consider poor economic situation, related to the military conflict in eastern Ukraine, as well as bank speculations, as the key reasons for the devaluation. NBU head hopes to stabilize the situation with next IMF credit coming soon.
  • Ukraine continue to pump gas into the underground storage tactilities, reverse gas supply from Slovakie have been recently tested. Verkhovna Rada approved possibility of foreign capital to participate to the management of Ukrianian GTS, as well as in establishment of storage and transport operators.
  • Norway and Switzerland followed the EU and the US and introduced sanctions against Russia. Ukrainian parliament adopted the law on sanctions as well.

Politics

  • Last barricades as well as the christmas tree carcass have been dismantled on Maidan. Authorities used «titushkas» to break up the rally of activists, instead of police. Cars traffic re-opened on Khreshatyk. Military parade is being planned on the Independence Day with participation of 1 500 man and 50 military technique units.
  • Wave of community facilities mining calls swamped on Kyiv, but hopefully all of them have been false ones.
  • Russian «humanitarian convoy» appeared half empty and is attempting to enter Ukraine through the terrorists controlled zone, instead of Kharkiv. Ukraine agreed to accept the cargo but only through the Red Cross, whose specialists getting ready to assess it on «Izvaryno» checkpoint jointly with Ukrainian customs officers. Ukrainian humanitarian aid is being already provided to civilians by the Red Cross in Luhansk region.
  • Verkhovna Rada deputies declined to vote for any of proposed options of the elections law, financing of the elections haven’t been decided as well. At the same time, President Poroshenko considers to hold the elections by the end of October, even though this contradicts with the Constitution.
  • Verkhovna Rada adopted the law on creation of the free economic zone in Crimea for 10 years with special regime of operations under the occupation, as well as the law on special justice regimen, pretrial investigation, use of weapons, and detention of subjects, engaged in terrorism within the combat areas, as well as created the military Prosecutor's offices.
  • The lustration law have been adopted in the first reading but when it will be approved is unknown for the time being.
  • Bishop of Bukovyna and Chernivtsi Onyfriy have been elected as the new Archbishop of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church under the Moscow Patriarchate.
