Ukraine

  • Russian army continues shelling Ukrainian Armed Forces from its territory, using multiple rocket launchers and artillery. Aircraft and helicopters of Russian Air Forces routinely violate Ukrainian airspace, but are not shot down so far. Columns of armored vehicles, artillery, multiple rocket launchers, ammunition trucks and mercenaries, penetrate from Russia to Ukraine through the part of land borders, controlled by terrorists of LPR.
  • Terrorists are shelling residential areas of Donetsk, Luhansk, Avdiivka, Shakhtarsk and Terez with multiple rocket launchers "Grad" and artillery, civilian casualties are reported.
  • Mayor of Stakhanov, "information minister" of DPR Bloha and Mayor of Popasnaya have been arrested for collaboration with terrorists.
  • Ukrainian troops with a rapid maneuver split the group of terrorists in Debalcevo, captured the strategic heights Saur-Mohyla, are fighting for Torez, Snizhne, Shakhtersk, Pervomais'k, Luhansk, Donetsk stripped from militants are Ilovajsk, Avdiyivka, Debalcevo.


Economy

  • On Friday, National Bank of Ukraine raised official exchange rate of Ukrainian Hryvnia vs major currencies by 1%, that have been falling down sharply during last two weeks, for the first time since 4 months of sharp devaluation, exceeding 12 UAH per 1 US dollar. This small pullback offset the negative trend, appeared as a result of political crisis due to resignation of Prime Minister Yatsenyuk.
  • Laws amending the Tax Code and the State Budget, signed by President Poroshenko, introduced military tax on personal incomes of individuals, reduced salaries of officials and increased funding of Kyiv city.
  • Rental fees for the use of natural resources increased as well, but to a much lesser extent than previously planned. According to some experts and market players, introduction of individual accounts for VAT administration, defined by the law,will have a negative impact on small and medium size business, washing away current assets and driving it into the shadows.
  • List of objects for privatization, proposed by the Government of Yatsenuk, have been significantly expanded by enterprises of recreation, tourism, construction and mining industries. As stated by the Prime Minister Yatsenyuk planned privatization will be the largest one in recent years.
  • Almost a third of the rental apartments in Kyiv are occupied by settlers from Crimea and eastern Ukraine, that is driving growth of rental fees.
  • Kiev face the problem of funds deficit for winter heating and started to accumulate gas in anticipation of the coming winter season. Authorities advised residents of homes without have hot water supply to buy and install boilers.

Politics


  • No confidence vote for the Yatsenyuk government, failed to get enough votes during the closed session of Verkhovna Rada. Government will continues to work in the same composition.
  • Deputies almost completely adopted a package of bills proposed by the government, except the law on joint management of the gas transportation system of Ukraine, which was sent to the additional second reading. Agreement with the Netherlands on admission to the territory of Ukraine of foreign policemen, aimed to secure the work of international experts at the crash site MH17 flight have been ratified.
  • President Poroshenko signed the Law on Higher education that integrates Ukrainian universities into the European community based on the Bologna system.
  • Meeting of the contact group was held on July 31 in Minsk with participation of ex-President Leonid Kuchma, Russia's ambassador to Ukraine Zurabov and the OSCE, on access of international experts to the crash site of the MH17 flight and release of all hostages. Several hostages released, experts have started to work on the site of the crash.
  • US and EU announced introduction of sectoral sanctions against Russian industries, major banks and individuals from the inner circle of President Putin, of DPR and LPR terrorist organizations and Crimean occupation government.
