President Poroshenko ordered to prepare wide-scale launch of 3g communication standard in Ukraine
Ukraine
  • Prosecutors have launched a criminal investigation of Mariupol City Administration officials on accusations of aiding terrorists, who held a joint meeting with representatives of the "People's Republic of Donetsk" and signed a memorandum. Also, criminal case against the Secretary of Lysychansk City Council was launched under accusation for "separatism".
  • SSU investigates facts of betrayal at the headquarters of the anti-terrorist operations, as well as among former heads of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Security Service of Ukraine and Ministry of Defense, financing terrorism.
  • "Naftogaz" head, Kobolev, said that cost of the gas transportation system of Ukraine is estimated at 25-35 billion dollars (including profit forecast of the volumes of transit). Estimate was made for the possibility of creating a transit company with 49% foreign stake.
  • Official exchange rate of Ukrainian Hryvnya (UAH), as established by the NBU: USD 11.64 / 1 $ (-3 cop), 15.69 UAH / 1 € (-8 cop), 3.32 UAH /10 RUR.
  • President Poroshenko ordered to prepare for the large-scale launch of 3G communication standard before August 15 and before 30th of October - to hold tenders for these frequencies. All Ukrainian mobile operators have already declared interest to participate to the tender. Previously Poroshenko urged the need for the early start of 3G and 4G networks implementation in Ukraine.

Kyiv
  • Military parade will be held in Kiev and Odessa on August 24 the Independence Day of Ukraine – stated in Poroshenko Presidential Decree. Kiev authorities, don’t plan to carry out mass entertainment events and concerts, instead prepare to hold landscape preparations, for the events of August 23-24. At the same time, activists are not going to leave Maidan.
War in Ukraine
  • According to Reuters, citing a source in NATO, Russian weapons and militants continue to infiltrate eastern Ukraine and, after a disaster Malaysian Airlines plane the flow increased.
  • Information and pictures from the Russian soldiers on participation to shelling of Ukraine from Russian territory appeared on major social networks.
  • Ukrainian Armed Forces liberated several towns in the western outskirts of Donetsk  near Dnepropetrovsk highway.
  • Terrorists shot down two Ukrainian SU-25 military aircrafts during combat mission, pilots managed to eject safely according to the Ministry of Defense data.
  • Terrorists continue the "railroads war" – several sections of train tracks have been blown during the day, one during the passage of trains in Luhansk region, shelling near Donetsk damaged the contact network.
  • In an interview with radio "Freedom" spokesman of "North" Command said that most of the detainees from the Antiterrorists Operation are residents of Russia, Azerbaijan and one citizen of Serbia.
  • During the day terrorists shelled positions of Ukrainian Armed Forces in Avdiivka and in Donetsk Airport, artillery and multiple missile launchers "Grad" have been used  in Donetsk, Gorlivka and Luhansk. Situation is critical on the coke plant in Avdiivka with potential risk of environmental disaster.
International

  • Pentagon spokesman Laynez stated that in the near future the U.S. will provide Ukraine with military equipment, radio stations and robots for demining.
  • Russia's permanent representative to the UN Churkin said that terrorists shot down Malaysian Airlines Boeing 777 not on purpose but but by mistake, assuming it was a military plane.
  • EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Ashton said that on July 24 EU is getting ready with decision to introduce large-scale sanctions against Russia, openly supporting terrorists in eastern Ukraine.
  • Bodies of the Malaysian Airlines aircraft catastrophe have been sent to the Netherlands from Kharkiv. Process of "black boxes" deciphering have started in the UK. Experts from the Netherlands stated that the information remain intact, despite the external damage traces of outside interference in their structure have not been found.
