Key Events in Ukraine

  • The Verkhovna Rada adopted a law according to which foreign citizens and stateless persons can serve under the contract in the Armed Forces. Mmilitary ranks and social protection will be provided for them.
    Fighters in the zone of the Anti-Tterrorist Operation are now allowed to conclude short-term contracts for six months.
    Deputies adopted in first reading a law to reduce the rent for oil and natural gas production, alternative the one proposed by the Government. Prime Minister Yatsenyuk urged the President to veto the law, as it disturbs the system of obtaining revenue from energy production, planned in the budget.
  • General Prosecutor Shokin wants to introduce changes to the regulations of the Verkhovna Rada to simplify the removal of the parliamentary immunity.
  • Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Parubiy believes that Prime Minister Yatsenyuk will remain in his office at least until spring to conduct the reforms necessary for the country.

In exchange they demand provision of  the special status for the territory, voting for  their proposed amendments to the Constitution and amnesty for the militants. Ukraine insists on cancellation of the "elections" held in the Donbass in 2014, to return the situation in the region into the Ukrainian legal field. According to President Poroshenko, the refusal to hold the DPR and LPR elections, is opening the way for the return of the Donbass to Ukraine .
  • Leader of the “Petro Poroshenko Blok” in the Parliament Lutsenko predicts the adoption by the Verkhovna Rada of the law on elections in the Donbas before the end of the year.
  • The ceasefire in the conflict zone in the Donbass continues. One soldier was wounded in a clash with the militants subversive group.
  • Ukraine began to withdraw the tanks from the front line in the Luhansk region. The General Staff said that after the removal of the light weapons and tanks, personnel, armed with small arms and anti-tank weapons and armored vehicles will stay on the boundary line .

Turkish President Erdogan said that the violations of its airspace by the Russian military aircrafts can destroy the friendly relations between the two countries. According to NATO officials, the actions of the Russian aircrafts in the border areas with Turkey, are not accidental.
