Key Events of Ukraine

  • Former President Kuchma said that the next round of trilateral negotiations on the settling in the Donbas with representatives of Russia and the OSCE involving the leaders of the Donbass "republics" would be held in Minsk on May 6 and it would be dedicated to the implementation of the political part of the agreement.

Ukraine at War

  • The situation in the Donbass keeps deteriorating day by day. Nearly 100 militants shellings and attacks were recorded during the day. According to official information, two Ukrainian soldiers were killed and five were injured. Ukrainian army withdrawn heavy weapons and missile systems from the fighting line, the militants, on the other hand, continued the shellings of the Ukrainian positions and settlements using the allegedly withdrawn weaponry. OSCE observers do not report on the movement of militants artillery and armored vehicles. Photos of destruction prove that the settlements are being under the shellings of the  militants.
  • Militants of Luhansk adopted the "law" on martial law "to reflect or prevent aggression against the republic" which will be introduced by a "decree" of "LPR president."

  • Despite the deteriorating of the situation in the Donbass, German Chancellor Merkel still stands for the solely peaceful settling of the conflict, even though, in her opinion, the implementation of the Minsk agreement is very complicated. US Ambassador to Ukraine Payatt also called on militants to cease fire and stated that the agreements reached cannot be interpreted freely.
  • Belarusian President Lukashenko after the meeting with the Austrian Minister of Foreign Affairs called the current relations with the West a warming.

  • Ukrainian media raised the topic of the incompetence of the acting Head of the State Emergency Service  Shkiryak who failed the rescue operation on evacuation of Ukrainians from Nepal, as well as his girlfriend’s participation in the expedition under the guise of the rescue team member.
