Key Events of Ukraine

  • President Poroshenko signed a law about the additional lump sum for policemen who were killed or injured during the call of duty to protect the state.
  • An approval procedure for municipal or state land transfer to citizens was simplified.

Ukraine at War

  • Despite the ongoing shelling and attacks by militants, the Ukrainian army has nearly completed the withdrawal of heavy weapons from the war zone. A tank attack was repulsed near Mariupol, a soldier of the "Donbass" volunteer battalion and a local resident were killed. OSCE observers recorded numerous skirmishes near Donetsk International Airport.
  • The leader of the DPR separatists Zaharchenko announced the "nationalization" of the mine named after Zasyadko, where 34 people were killed as a result of a methane explosion on March 4.

Ukraine and the World

  • According to a statement by German Foreign Minister Steinmeier, Russian Federation gave OSCE observers guarantees for unrestricted access to the rebels military equipment locations.
  • No decision about additional sanctions against Russia was adopted at a meeting of EU foreign ministers due to the lack of consensus. Foreign ministers of Austria, Cyprus, Italy were against additional sanctions and the German government has taken a neutral position.

  • "The Mirror of the Week" Ukrainian magazine accused the Ministry of Defense in the procurement of obsolete and decommissioned military equipment. Former Georgian President Saakashvili criticized the Ukrainian leadership for failing to use the country's potential for the development of the defense industry due to rampant corruption and theft.
