Kyiv mayor Klitschko initiated transformation of Andryivsky Uzviz street into a pedestrian zone and arrangement of the street trade, in order to create a tourism "business card" of the capital.

Ukraine

  • President Poroshenko signed several important laws previously adopted by Verkhovna Rada. In particular, he signed the Law on Higher Education, that determines self-governance and integration of universities into the European space, based on the Bologna process, as well as Amendments to the State Budget and the Tax Code, providing additional funding to Kyiv, martial tax on personal income, reduction of state official salaries.
  • President Poroshenko announced in TV interview creation of international Donbass recovery aid fund, involving US, UK, Japan and most European countries. Additionally, Ukrainian oligarchs money should be used for the region's recovery.
  • President Poroshenko insists on change of electoral law and introduction of a fully proportional system and open party lists.
  • National Bank of Ukraine strengthened exchange rate of Ukrainian Hryvnia by 1%: 11.96 UAH / 1$ (-13 cop), 16.00 UAH / 1€ (-21 cop), 3.37 UAH / 10 RUR (-1 cop).
  • Interpol haven’t yet included Yanukovych and his associates to the database of the most wanted criminals due to insufficient evidence, as stressed by parliamentary Moskal.
  • General Prosecutor's Office arrested the Deputy Head of the National Bank of Ukraine Prikhodko for embezzlement of Agrarian Fund assets in cooperation with other officials.

War in Ukraine

  • Military actions are ongoing in the outskirts of Donetsk. Terrorists roadblock have been destroyed in Mospino, as a result of combat reconnaissance operation. Fighting for Krasnogorovka are ongoing with varying degrees of success. 4 coal mines have been cut from the electricity supply but miners have been successfully brought on the surface. Several civilians, traveling in the shuttle bus, have been seriously injured from explosion. Terrorists mined main bridges on the territories under their control. Luhansk is fully cut of electricity and water supply, mobile networks doesn’t work, 5 people, were killed and 9 wounded during the day.
  • Dozen of Ukrainian paratroopers have been killed, injured or lost during the Shakhtarsk shelling. Ukrainian army liberated several villages in the border area near the height of the Saur-Mohyla.
  • International experts who managed to get to the crash area of the MH17 flight near Torez, discovered fragments of bodies of dead passengers.
  • Russian aviation continues to invade the airspace of Ukraine in Donets, at a depth of 15 km.

International


  • International community is trying to pacify President Putin with peaceful means. British Prime Minister Cameron said before the NATO summit, that alliance leaders should reconsider their policy towards Russia. British MPs previously stressed that NATO is poorly prepared for the attack on the alliance country-members. In the telephone conversation, that took place on August 1, President Obama told President Putin that Russia is violating international agreements openly supplying weapons to terrorists in eastern Ukraine, moreover, it violates the agreement on mid and short range missiles reduction, reached in1987. Putin called sanctions against Rossia as «counterproductive." Obama stressed that US is ready to impose additional sanctions against Russia, in spite of the EU position.
  • US are ready to spend $ 19 million on training and re-arming of Ukrainian National Guards, as Pentagon spokesman Kirby told in a briefing.
  • Russia prepares strongholds along the border with Ukraine and in Crimea, as well announced reservists trainings.
  • Russian Federation systematically restricts and prohibits Ukrainian under the pretext of «non-compliance to standards" and «ecological risks».
