Key Events In Ukraine

  • President Poroshenko signed laws to strengthen the independence of the National Bank, which is a condition for granting of the next tranche of the IMF loan, he also signed a law on the moratorium on the export of unprocessed timber.
  • The government says that the creation of a joint venture with the  "Private" group is possible only after full settlement of rental payments and dividends for the previous period.
  • Interior Minister Arsen Avakov informed about the establishment of a unit with the task to return the stolen assets to state ownership.
  • The official hryvnia exchange rate continues to decline: 21.97 UAH/USD (+0.27 UAH), 24.22 UAH/EUR (+0,50 UAH), 3.84 UAH/RUR 10 (+0.05 UAH). From the beginning of the week hryvnia lost almost 5% of its value against dollar and euro.

Ukraine at War

  • Despite the relative inactivity, the losses of Ukrainian troops are increasing. During the day, two soldiers were killed, ten were wounded. Skirmishes and attacks with use of heavy weapons continued near Mariupol, Horlivka, Donetsk, Schastye, Stanitsa Luhanska and Popasna.
  • State-owned bank "Oschadbank" sued Russia for the loss of property in the annexed Crimea. "Privatbank" also filed a similar lawsuit. Prime Minister Yatsenyuk urged all public companies to follow the example of "Oschadbank".

Ukraine and the World


  • The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly adopted a resolution on violation of norms of international law by Russia, which recognizes the aggression against Ukraine, the Russian Federation is named responsible for the difficult economic situation in Ukraine. PACE called on to provide the financial assistance to Ukraine.
  • Greek Prime Minister said that the result of the referendum does not mean separation from the European Union and promises to conduct reforms in the country in exchange for the cancellation or restructuring of debt, coverage of all financial needs of the country and a strong investment program. The US Secretary of Treasury Lew believes that it would be a major geopolitical mistake to allow the bankruptcy of Greece to happen .
  • Turkmenistan recognized "Gazprom" insolvent after it refused to pay for the natural gas imported by it from the beginning of the year.
