Ukraine at War

  • After the intense shelling with the use of MLRS "Uragan" and "Grad" at least 1,000 militants began a full-scale attack on Maryinka. The General Staff decided to return the heavy weapons to the front line. The attacks were repulsed with the support of armored vehicles and artillery. The militants suffered heavy losses. At least two Ukrainian soldiers were killed and dozens were injured, most of the wounded soldiers were evacuated to the hospitals in Dnepropetrovsk and Kharkov. As a result of the shelling, a substation providing power for the TV tower was destroyed - in Donetsk stopped the TV broadcasting of Russian TV channels and local militants TV channels. Peski and Vodyane also were under attacks. Routes to Mariupol and Zaporizhzhia are closed.
    Intensive shellings of Shyrokine continue. Militants shelled the residential areas of Donetsk, trying to demonstrate the violation of the truce by the Ukrainian troops. In Donetsk and Maryinka several civilians were affected. Shellings of Dzerzhinsk and Mayorsk intensified, artillery fire from Dokuchayevsk hit Berezove settlement on the Mariupol route. Near Trehizbenka in the Luhansk region, in 20 km from the demarcation line, militants mine hit the car and killed two civilians.
    During the night time shellings continued along all the contact line.
  • In Stanitsa Luganska militants switched off the power supply. Water supply facility, providing water for Lugansk and settlements in the southern part of the Luhansk region, which are under the militants control,   is still not working.
  • One of the Russian commandos seized in Schastye, after the treatment is to be transferred to the detention center.
  • According to the SBU, almost 1,200 people are considered missing in the conflict zone .
  • The OSCE observers recorded in the area of Donetsk the massive transfer of militants manpower and heavy equipment , and also soldiers with Russian army chevrons and equipment with Russian army marks.

Ukraine and the World

  • The US Department of State put the responsibility for the escalation of fighting in Maryinka on Russia.
  • Bloomberg Agency stated that during the last year the Russian Federation increased its defense spendings by at least half with the help of the so-called "black budget" (approved but not itemized in articles). The defense budget of Russia is the third in the world after the US and China.
  • Deputy Prime Minister Rogozin admitted that Russia cannot complete its warships because of the missing Ukrainian components. The start of the replacement production will require at least three years.
  • Iran is ready to supply natural gas to Europe after the lifting of sanctions .
  • Oil on world markets becomes cheaper due to the refuse of the OPEC countries to reduce the production.
  • Russia wants to include the Ukraine's commitment to purchase and inject natural gas into underground storage facilities and the allocation for these purpose of the financial assistance from the EU into the next package of the natural gas agreements.
  • President Obama signed a law denying the security services the right to arbitrarily, without a court order, track the telephone conversations of Americans, which was previously granted by the "Patriot Act" after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.

The Trends


  • Experts estimate the probability of creation of a secure public mobile network as extremely low, because of the high cost of the work, unaffordable for the budget. Secure fixed-line network was supposed to be transferred to the state ownership under the terms of the "Ukrtelecom" privatization, but it was never built.
