  • President Poroshenko, live on the "Ukraina" TV channel, owned by oligarch Akhmetov, promised to bring to justice those who are destabilizing the country. SSU started criminal proceedings against the organizers of the miners protests and, among them, managers of the DTEK company, owned by Akhmetov . UkrEnergo State Company  warns of possible power outage due to a sharp reduction of coal purchases by thermal power plants, owned by Akhmetov. A criminal case for funding terrorists and separatists was opened against Akhmetov. The “Poroshenko Bloc" deputies assume the possibility of the nationalization of DTEK.
  • "Energoatom" State Company  signed a contract with the AREVA French company for the supply of enriched uranium within the framework of the diversification of Ukrainian NPPs supply with nuclear fuel.
  • Ukraine and NATO signed a memorandum on wider cooperation within the framework of the "Partnership for Peace" program. The document, in particular, allows the possibility of using the trust funds money for the modernization of control and communication systems of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

  • The headquarters of the antiterrorist operation register a noticeable decrease in militants activities in the combat zone in the Donbass, but shelling of the Ukrainian positions with the use of heavy weapons and intensive recognaissance with the use of UAVs continue.
  • Prime Minister Yatsenyuk, based on the intelligence data, said that in the Donbass there is a powerful concentration of manpower and equipment of the Russian army and militants controlled by Russia. The aggression is far from being over
  • The leader of the DPR militants Zakharchenko admitted that heavy weapons were not withdrawn from the confrontation line. He said he would not allow the deployment of UN peacekeeping forces in the Donbass.
  • OSCE observers came under militants fire in Shyrokine and were not allowed in the controlled area. The decision on the demilitarization of Shyrokine, adopted by Russian-Ukrainian working group, is not being implemented. According to the head of the OSCE mission, it requires the decision of the upper echelon.

  • EU Finance Ministers announced that Greece will not receive any financial assistance until it offers a plan for full-scale economic reforms.
  • EU considers a delay in introduction of a free trade zone with Ukraine, which is scheduled for January 1, 2016 impossible.
  • PACE spring session ended with no resolution on Ukraine adopted. Discussion of sanctions against Russia is postponed until the next session, which is to be held in June.
  • IMF Managing Director Lagarde fully supports the restructuring of the Ukrainian debt.
  • Russian investigative authorities officially brought charges of aiding and attempted murder of Russian journalists and illegal crossing of border against the Ukrainian pilot Savchenko .

The Trends

  • President Poroshenko, after the actual victory over oligarch Kolomoiskiy, decided that he is strong enough to fight against the biggest Ukrainian oligarch Akhmetov. The latter is blackmailing the government by the reducing of coal mining and electricity production, demanding to increase the prices for them. For that he used the miners meetings, including meetings of miners working for his enterprises, which were not receiving salaries for a long time. The "Opposition Blok"deputies and member of "Batkivshchina" fraction, trade union activist, Volynets took active part in the meetings.
    Experts consider the current situation an excuse for a possible complete redistribution of the energy market and the gradual displacement of Akhmetov from it.
